Bite and bite inhibition - don't hurt me, puppy!

Another basic component of puppy education is bite inhibition. An exuberant puppy who is also just teething tends to pinch you while playing and can even bite his trouser leg properly. If the behavior is not stopped in time, it may become an unsightly habit. Therefore: The bite inhibition is urgently necessary from the beginning. Often even very small puppies start snatching at the age of 8 weeks. Sometimes the biting develops only later and reaches its climax in the flail age from 6 months.

So the bite inhibition is instilled:

  1. Violent, but no hysterical "no", when the puppy snaps;
  2. Stop any game in which a puppy begins to snap immediately. Leave the room and ignore the puppy for a while;
  3. Basically, avoid any distorting and pulling games;
  4. Carefully lift a puppy that has just bitten its way into the trouser leg. As a rule, he will let go of the cloth as soon as he feels no more hold under his paws;
  5. Say "Ouch!" with a pain-distorted face and rub the wound, even an imaginary one. Even young puppies have enough empathy to understand that they have hurt their master or mistress.

Bark - not so loud, sweetheart!

Some breeds like Terrier or Spitz and also some dog individuals are barking by nature. Others, the Chow-Chow or Wolfhound, develop more rarely to Dauerbellern. It can also be a bad example of an older dog because dogs often learn by imitation. However, constant barking quickly becomes a disturbing factor. For the dog itself, permanent barking is also stressful, but it cannot change its behavior without your help.

The race-typical permanent barking is to be led back above all to the natural protective instinct of the dogs. Barking can also be an expression of boredom or uncertainty. The continuous barking can already occur in the first months of life, so watch the puppy closely: it's quiet "bark, bark" may be the beginning of the later annoying continuous barking.

That helps against the constant barking:

  1. "No" or "Off", possibly reinforced by one of the two punishments;
  2. Distract the puppy with a game or a gas round;
  3. To the dog child, other dogs and humans safely, calmly and serenely appear.
